Folklore books are fictional stories that have been in our childhood
generation to generation. Two of my favorites folklore books are Caperucita
Roja – Red riding hood, and El Patito Feo – The ugly duckling. Those stories came
to my mind at first because I grow up reading them. Both books have been translated
into more than 100 languages.
The ugly duckling was originally written by Hans Christian
Andersen and first published in 1843. Today, I will refer to the ugly
duckling retold by Jerry Pinkney. The story is similar to the original one, the
pictures of this book are so colorful and look very elaborated. One of the things
I most like about the illustrations is that he drew beautiful animal faces. This story confirms that it does not
matter how you look, some people will love you and others will not, the
most important is to believe in yourself.
Red riding hood. Its origins can be traced back to several pre-17th
century European folk tales. The two best-known versions were written by
Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. For this assignment, I used the
version that was retold and illustrated by James Marshall. I love the animation
of each page of this book and the pastel colors he used. It was my first time
reading this book in English and it drove me to my childhood memories.
These books are masterpieces in children's literacy and should
be telling every year to our kids because the most important is to keep these
traditional stories for many years more.
