Leave me alone! Illustrated and written by Vera Brosgol.

Leave me alone!

Sometimes we all need a little space just to organize our lives and have a bit of quietness. No noises, just us living our best moment; looks like even grandmothers need it too. As soon as I read the title of the book, I could predict the story. The front cover picture is about an old woman with an exhausted face ( looks like she really needs time for herself), the size of the title and the grandma can give you an idea of the story because they talked by themselves.

While reading the book, I could appreciate that each image related to the story, which is an important characteristic of picturebooks. It is a story about a grandma with so many grandchildren and they were all in her house. At some point, grandma got tired because they were very noisy. She left the house to finish knitting and wherever she was going, there was a lot of distraction. Finally, she found a quiet place and finished 13 sweaters for her grandchildren. After cleaning and doing a lot of chores in that black hole, she realized that she was alone and was ready to go back home, and enjoy her time with her grandchildren. In the end, everyone was happy, even grandma that did not want to leave home again.

Each page was telling me the story without having to read it. The story is perfectly illustrated, even the part when the grandma was in the black hole. The facial expression of each character was perfectly connected with the words. Some challenging words, just to teach new vocabulary to kids. You can see how the illustration can reflect and extend the text. The story has some fun phases and it made me laugh.   Finally, the illustration could connect with my feelings, which is an amazing experience while you are reading a book.

Without a doubt, Leave me alone is an excellent book to read at home, or in the classroom. The objective of the book is totally clear; sometimes you will need time for yourself, not for a long time because being alone is the worse thing that could happen to a person. Life is better when you spend time with your loved ones.
