How I discovered the magic world of reading a book!

As you know, I am from Venezuela! A beautiful country located in South America. Sadly, I have to admit that in our country teachers do not motivate you to read or even at home it is not a “must to do thing” before going nite nite. I have never remembered my mom or dad reading me a book before going to bed, or just having a trip to the library. It is just something we are not used to do.

I remember my first Sunday in this country with my host family (I was an aupair – Cultural Exchange Program), we went to church in the morning and in the afternoon my host mom told me: Hey Lizeth let’s go to the library. I was like: What? Sunday, library? … Ok! After that day I realized all the time I have been losing in my life without a book.

That does not mean I have never read before, well probably yes! That I remember I read 6 books during my first 27 years of life. But I have good news for you, it is never too late to start something you know you better have to do.

Today, rather than criticize myself for that I want to tell you how I started this new chapter in my life. As I mentioned I don’t remember a book that highlights my childhood, but I totally remember what motived me to read.  Starting a new routine is not that simple and reading a book for sure was not a fun thing to do for me. So, I started thinking about something I would like to learn.

I have been always interested in motivational topics. Self-esteem, women’s magic powers, independence, and self-love. So, I found an incredible author named Rachel Hollis. This girl gave me the courage I needed to start this reading journey. After reading her NYTimes bestseller book called “Girl, wash your face”, my life changed.

3 years later, I have read around 50 children’s books, 15 books, love to listen to podcasts and I have listened to 3 audiobooks. My teaching goal is to go back to my city and start training all those teachers in my country and teach them the benefit of including books in their classrooms.
